Albion Environmental SQA/WAMITAB Centre Training and Assessment Process
In the seven years Albion Environmental Ltd has been operating providing WAMITAB training and assessment we have made a number of innovative and positive changes to the way awards are delivered. These changes are driven by our approach that completion of awards must be for the benefit of candidates and client companies. A full range of awards is available and the assessment process we currently use is based on the following key stages:
Key stages to our process are as follows:-
Background Knowledge - Optional
Background to Waste Management Course - This course will cover the basic knowledge and understanding required to complete a WAMITAB award. Ideal for candidates who are new to the industry or simply wish to improve their knowledge. Background to Waste Management Course content.
Duration - 2 days
Delivery - in house or at external venues
Course Induction - Required
Detailed award induction delivered via a "Powerpoint" presentation covering all aspects of the portfolio. This induction will allow candidate to commence preparing their portfolio.
Portfolio - Required
We now offer three versions of the standard WAMITAB portfolio
Option 1 - Blank portfolio provided to candidate with all records sheets to be completed by candidate.
Option 2 - Blank portfolio provided to candidate with all records sheets to be completed by candidate supplied on 1GB complimentary memory stick. This has two key advantages, one it reduces the quantity of paper used and two it allows candidates to complete records on computer. Candidate can then pass records to assessor via email.
Option 3 (under trial) - Candidate is provided with access to a web based portfolio and no folders will be provided.
Site Assessment - Required
Although we are making every effort to assess work remotely via email and web based system the assessor must also check that the evidence provided by the candidate is valid, authentic, current, reliable and sufficient. We currently address this via an on site assessment carried out at the candidates workplace.
Portfolio Assessment - Required
We currently offer three types of assessment based on the three types of portfolios provided as above.
Option 1 - Assessor will visit the site at an agreed frequency to assess candidates work.
Option 2 - Candidate will email assessor work as and when it is completed. Assessor will aim to assess within 5 working days. This provides the candidate with more positive and regular feed back and reduced assessor costs. Usually evidence is not checked at this stage, apart from the description provided. All evidence provided would then be assessed once the candidate has completed his portfolio.
Option 3 - Candidate will complete work which will be automatically highlighted to the assessor. Assessor will aim to assess within 5 working days and will include assessment of evidence which will be up loaded to web based system. This again provides the candidate with more positive and regular feed back and reduced assessor costs.
Additional Activities and Exercises - Optional
In some cases candidates will not have the necessary knowledge to complete all units. For example a civic amenity site supervisor may not receive any hazardous waste (by definition household waste is not hazardous). They may struggle to provide the required evidence that they know how to receive hazardous waste to the site. Albion Environmental ltd provide an exercise for the candidate to work through to provide the necessary evidence.
Additional Training - Optional
Albion Environmental Ltd has a range of training developed to cover the waste management sector. Where gaps have been identified with candidates training or with their staff we can provide the necessary level of training.
